^ amen to that. We will always have our problems but something I believe we can agree on is there is a problem in the west. They abandoned Christ for hedonism and pleasure. I believe for at least the time being we should try and work together and defend the faith.

I heard about Methodists, they apparently have female “ministers”

9
slrpnls 9 points ago +9 / -0

I was a Methodist and I left for a couple reasons: 1. They seemed to care more about bowing to the world instead of the Word of God. 2. The idea that I could somehow choose my own salvation seemed laughable to me. and 3. Women pastors who would inevitably preach social justice bullshit.

We all worship something. You're either aware of it, or you aren't.

Belief is an inescapable part of the human condition. If you have consciousness and interpret the world around you than you believe in something.

1
Tourgen 1 point ago +1 / -0

If you mean Faith when you use the word Belief, then no, that is not true. Faith seems to be a Christian thought pattern and philosphy that underpins the Christian religion but isn't generally found in other religions.

Okay but it literally says "Thou art Peter and on this rock I shall build my church"... I know the point of the meme is lost on me. Sorry.

1
Scerdo 1 point ago +1 / -0

Peter declares that Jesus Christ is the precious rock, stone, and chief corner stone that is made head of the corner (Acts 4:10-11; 1 Peter 2:6-8 KJV)

There is no rock other than God (1 Samuel 2:2; 2 Samuel 22:32 KJV)

Jesus' very words are like a rock that saves you from damnation by heeding them (Matthew 7:24-29; Luke 6:46-49 KJV)

Only Jesus Christ can fit this criteria as the rock, not Peter.

God/Jesus as the Rock: Deu 32:4,15,18,30-31; 1 Sam 2:2; 2 Sam 22:2-3,32,47, 23:3; Job 38:6; Ps 18:2, 62:7, 92:15, 94:22, 104:5, 118:22; Is 28:16; Dan 2:34-35,45; Mat 7:24-29, 16:18; Mark 12:9-11; Acts 4:11; Rom 9:33; 1 Cor 10:4; Eph 2:19-21; 1 Pet 2:6-8; Rev 13:8 KJV

1
mrs.rose 1 point ago +2 / -1

Sorry, but I think Jesus' ACTUAL QUOTE is more meaningful than any of this convoluted and overreaching interpretations. The simplest answer is usually the correct one.

1
Scerdo 1 point ago +1 / -0

"This rock" of 16:18 refers to the Christ. In 16:16, Peter says that Jesus is the Christ, and Jesus' response to that is that on "this rock" - the Christ (I Corinthians 10:4) - "I", meaning God, will build My church. The church is not the Body of Christ, which is present today in the dispensation of grace. Rather, the church is the found sheep of the house of Israel. (A church is merely a group of believers. It did not start in Acts 2, as most people claim, as evidenced by Acts 7:38, which says that the church existed in the wilderness during Moses' day.) They are found because they, like Peter, have trusted in Jesus as the Christ. "The gates of hell" refers to the Antichrist's kingdom in the tribulation period. "The church" is the believing remnant during the tribulation period. Try as they might, the Antichrist and apostate Israel cannot destroy God's church. The reason that the church cannot be destroyed is because of the work that the Messiah did to save Israel from Satan - the one stronger than he (Jeremiah 31:11).

mrs.rose 1 point ago +4 / -3

What a weak analysis.

They literally admitted in the first few lines that the most obvious and straightforward answer is that Jesus meant yes, Peter, Petros, is the rock on which Jesus will build His Church.

Stop jumping through hoops, friend. There is only one true Church.

0
FreakinFrogsGay 0 points ago +2 / -2

And who is that one true Church? Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord. Catholics are so cringe that it turns me inside out --especially your globohomo Pope.

-1
BasedMan000 -1 points ago +1 / -2

Your one true church that likes to stray from scripture and dictate what is and isn't despite the scripture already being complete? A straight forward "answer" doesn't warrant it being the answer. I'm not subscribing to that nonsense. Don't be narrow minded, friend.

-1
BasedMan000 -1 points ago +1 / -2

And your infallible popes would have made Peter cringe at their "infallible" heresy.

Paul was the one who had himself crucified upside down since he felt he wasn't worthy of being killed the same way Jesus was?

7

That was Peter. Paul was martyred by being beheaded. Paul was a Roman citizen, so they gave him a less painful death.

3

Inside every atheist there is a chasm in their spirit the size of God, and they put all kinds of degeneracy and trash into it in the hopes that it is finally filled. No wonder they are the saddest, most desperate and depressed people, in general. Heck, the only atheist ive met who werent depressed were the ones that admitted that Christianity brought a lot of good to the world.

7
dutchgroyper 7 points ago +11 / -4

As a kid, protestant churches made me feel depressed. Still does.

7
MrBasedGuy 7 points ago +7 / -0

Why

6
BigBeef 6 points ago +6 / -0

Not my experience. I went to a nice, traditional Lutheran Church. There were potlucks where the old ladies and farmer’s wives would make delicious treats and everyone would have a good time. We sung hymns from the hymnal, and had an organ. Super duper comfy.

Every Church is different, though. Sorry you had bad experiences.

3
BigBeef 3 points ago +3 / -0

We aren’t all like that, And I know that you probably know this. Some of us are still willing to stand up for what is right, I guess that can apply to everyone. Out in the rural areas is like a whole different world, I suppose I like it that way. They stay away from us, we don’t get degraded.

5
FrancoReanimated 5 points ago +8 / -3

I know exactly what you mean. They are so barren and dull that they feel more like a secular hospital or crematorium chapel than like a church. At least low church Protestant churches are like that. Iconoclasm is against human nature.

3
mrs.rose 3 points ago +3 / -0

3 words for you: Tridentine latin mass

2
FrancoReanimated 2 points ago +2 / -0

I have a good traditional parish in my city, but I don't feel the need to attend their Mass because my home NO parish, which is located in a very beautiful little neo-Gothic church built a little over a century ago, celebrates the most reverent NO Mass possible. The priests are 100% orthodox, they always use incense and pray in Latin, etc. The only thing that bugs me a little is that they don't use the beautiful old high altar and celebrate Mass versus populum, but on the other hand, the high altar is still there and serves as a beautiful home for the Tabernacle. Do you think I would be better off to attend the TLM? If yes, why?

2
mrs.rose 2 points ago +3 / -1

The Latin mass is a more perfect form of the mass. Even the most reverent novus ordo mass as pleasing to God as the least reverent Latin mass. Numerous exorcists cite that they cannot exorcise demons without the use of Latin. This is the language of the Church.

1
FrancoReanimated 1 point ago +1 / -0

But what about the other rites that celebrate Mass differently from the Tridentine form, like the Dominican rite or the Eastern Catholic rites? Don't get me wrong, I prefer the Tridentine Mass and I understand the arguments for its superiority, but if a Mass is 100% reverent and without violations against its rite, how can it be "bad"? After all, Catholics have celebrated Mass for over 1500 years prior to the Tridentine Mass in its various forms.

3
conso0mer 3 points ago +3 / -0

I know what you mean. But mostly because most of my formative church experiences was me being a little shithead who was forced to go to Church and I never truly found Christ in Church. I found him when I needed him most this past year.

6
potato4dawin 6 points ago +7 / -1

As someone from a Protestant background where the church I went to is trying to reform their unbiblical teachings and ungodly traditions from the past, I've come to the decision that while Protestants have lots of problems, Catholicism's legalistic teachings stray from the spiritual understanding of the Bible leading to corruption and twisting of scripture as the Pharisees in Jesus's time but even Jesus commanded the Israelites to obey the Pharisees in their teaching of God's Law but to not follow them in their hypocrisy. More than anything I would say the Orthodox are closest to the truth, even going so far as to say that in the Photian Schism that Photius was legitimate even up to his excommunication of the Pope, but even the Orthodox Church has largely been corrupted by Eastern Mysticism.

My point being that I believe the Christian infighting is a necessary step to purge heresy from among all denominations as we are quite prone to fall into heresy regardless of our origins after 2000 years

6
johnmic07 6 points ago +6 / -0

I've never experienced much Christian infighting. Disagreements between Christians are almost always extremely respectful.

7
conso0mer 7 points ago +7 / -0

That's a contemporary thing unfortunately lmao. Catholic and protestant infighting was very common.

Question to Prooootestants: What is your opinion of high church Anglicans and Lutherans who are basically more Catholic in practice that Evangelical or Baptist?

1
Mark4-39 1 point ago +1 / -0

They're confused catholics. Why think about them at all?

1
PepesCovfefe 1 point ago +1 / -0

What does “ high church” mean?

1
slrpnls 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm a Presbyterian and I get along just fine with the Lutherans I know. I think the more Calvinists, Arminians and Lutherans discuss things the closer we can come to understanding God as He chooses to be revealed.

1
covetousbernie 1 point ago +1 / -0

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
